Mirror House A is a 120sqm house that was commissioned by the client as a build-and-sell property. With the modest floor area and budget, the project was an exercise in restraint in contrast to the surrounding houses in the subdivision. A limited palette of materials was chosen and forms were kept simple and direct. Its design is partly inspired by residential houses in Japan.

It also presented a unique challenge of balancing design that would appeal to the mass market, while avoiding the cookie-cutter aesthetic of many real estate properties for sale today.

Cecilia’s is the in-house restaurant of Tugawe Cove Resort, a premium 4-star resort located in Caramoan, Camarines Sur that we were involved with rebranding a few years prior.

Tugawe Cove Resort is best known as the place where the sun, sea, and lake meet. More than an accommodation, it is a destination that beckons to be explored and experienced. The restaurant's identity is meant to be an extension of this idea, meant to imbibe a casual and fresh atmosphere that provides comfort, familiarity, and a sense of fun and adventure.

Located on a lot that was previously divided into two, the design is meant to be mirrored on the adjacent property. The whole exterior of the house, along with the perimeter fence, is painted a single shade of gray, save for the white entrance porch and the exposed white downspouts that complement it. Angled slots located on the fence, gate, and porch allow for privacy from the outside and means of surveillance from the inside.

The ground floor spaces were kept open with minimal partitions to make the space seem larger. Aside from the living, dining, and kitchen areas, the house has three bedrooms -- one on the ground floor, and another one on the second floor together with the master bedroom. These rooms were mostly left unfurnished to allow flexibility for the new owner purchasing and moving into the house, with only fixtures and built-in closets provided.

Construction of Mirror House A was completed within a year, and is now occupied by the new owners. The construction of the adjacent house, Mirror House B+, is currently in progress.
