WHEN TWO BECAME THREE

PROJECT TYPE

Condominium Fit-out

LOCATION

Pasig City

STATUS

Completed in 2018

This 2-bedroom condo was designed for a married couple of two who were expecting their first kid around the same time that they wanted to move in. Their requirements were simple and straight to the point – clean, minimalist in aesthetic, but maximalist in terms of storage options without making the space feel small or cramped, especially for their large collection of books and kitchen items.

A few extra centimeters of space can make all the difference, and this project was a great opportunity to explore the advantages of modular furniture and custom built-ins.

Storage solutions came in the form of built-in cabinets that were fit exactly to the measurements of each area and their previously purchased furniture. Colors were used sparingly to camouflage larger storage built-ins as part of the space.

The ceiling height of the unit was maximized by placing open shelving above the door height on the upper part of the doors above door height, which was where they were able to store all their books. As the family is used to eating their meals by the TV, the usual dining set was replaced with a more compact bar setup. A mirrored door concealing more storage was strategically located near their bedrooms to give the illusion of space in the cramped corridor.

The master bedroom, though small in size, has a full-sized closet to accommodate the couple's extensive wardrobe. A long desk and back painted glass on the adjacent wall provides the perfect work from home setup. The pendant lights that the couple received as a wedding gift was incorporated as their part of their bedroom's lighting.

The baby room  incorporates a pale blue for its walls, with a striped accent wall that ties in with the colors of the rest of the unit. The overall result is a clean and fresh home for the starting family of three that can accommodate their evolving needs.
