The brief given to us for A.M. Espresso’s first pop-up booth was simple: create something that makes a big impact. We were given full creative direction for the design, so we decided to create modular components designed and fabricated with CNC, with finishing done separately by our contractor collaborator.
Each of the modules designed has a specific purpose depending on A.M. Espresso’s needs for the pop-up: namely (1) creating espresso-based drinks, (2) making pourover coffee, (3) merch display, (4) interacting with customers, (5) highlighting their different beans and roasts, and (6) space for storage and cleanup. Even the walls were designed in modules in consideration of event ingress and egress.Though we leaned heavily on our preference to use finished plywood, we also used paint and colored wood stains to incorporate A.M.’s branding. We also made use of their signature dot marking for the lighting elements and other playful features such as door pulls and grommets. The most challenging part of this project was definitely the quick turnaround necessary from production to rollout. We were able to take full advantage of how fast CNC production can be vs. more traditional fabrication methods.
