Mirror House A is a 120sqm house that was commissioned by the client as a build-and-sell property. With the modest floor area and budget, the project was an exercise in restraint in contrast to the surrounding houses in the subdivision. A limited palette of materials was chosen and forms were kept simple and direct. Its design is partly inspired by residential houses in Japan.
It also presented a unique challenge of balancing design that would appeal to the mass market, while avoiding the cookie-cutter aesthetic of many real estate properties for sale today. Located on a lot that was previously divided into two, the design is meant to be mirrored on the adjacent property.
