Purveyr Plaza

When we initially discussed the idea of Purveyr Plaza with Marvin, he told us he wanted to have a space where people can experience the Purveyr Fair at any time of the year.We conceptualized a space that is flexible; to serve both the retail and event facets of Purveyr. Our explorations and discussions eventually led us to approach the design via a series of modules that could be moved around, re-arranged, and altered according to different needs.We created 7 module designs, serving most of the display and storage needs of the space. Constructed in local marine plywood and finished simply with a flat clear coat, we wanted to evoke the look and feel of Purveyr Fair’s booth walls, which have become a signature sights over the years that the fair has taken place. The simple finish and minimalist forms also put the spotlight on the featured products, rather than outshining them.For the counter modules, the stainless steel counters, frames, and mesh panels provide a good contrast to all the plywood finish, while the overhead floating elements are inspired by the look of a sari-sari store. We made use of movable shelf components for the larger display modules, so that a variety of products (from apparel, books, accessories, design objects, etc.) can be placed and stored. We also placed most of the modules on caster wheels, for easy mobility within the space.

We developed a good number of module designs for the project, though some of them have yet to be realized. But the beauty with how we conceptualized the space’s overall design is that there will be more room for them to be added in the future.
